Crowdsourcing is when you take information from the general public.
Some examples of crowdsourcing:
-99 Designs
http://99designs.com/
99 Designs is a website where you can vote on designs and get your designs on t-shirts, websites, logos, or print designs. It is crowdsourcing because you can submit designs, vote on them, and you can tell them what you need and how much you want to pay.
-The Ellen Show Website
http://ellen.warnerbros.com/
If you watch her show you will see that she asks people to send in pictures, videos, etc. This is crowdsourcing. People submit their pics, videos, etc. into the website for use on the show. Ellen takes some of the things that are sent in and shows them on her show in differents segments like "What's Wrong With This Photo? Photo" where viewers send in photos that aren't quite right and she shows them on the show.
